Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Decision:
To enter into the Essex Filming Partnership Agreement with Essex County Council.
Reasons for the decision:
To ensure that the District of Tendring forms part of the work of the Essex Film Unit as it seeks to develop the county as a film friendly region. The Film Unit is intending this due to the opportunities for inward investment, tourism and PR the film & TV industries can bring. The Unit states that it will proactively take positive action to promote, support and enable filmmaking to be attracted to and take place in Essex, and to showcase this to the creative industries.
The partnership agreement is non-legally binding agreement and has no financial commitment attached to it. In addition it does not remove the need for any necessary permissions from the Council for specific activities by or on behalf of Film/TV Companies.
Alternative options considered:
Not to enter the agreement would be to risk missing opportunities that may arise from the UK Film and TV Industry coming to Tendring. As a consequence, the District could miss the economic and social benefits of attracting film related activity into its area through the work of the Film Unit.
