To seek the Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Public Realm’s agreement to a revised Beach Hut Specification and the implementation of interim arrangements for addressing the regularisation or removal of unauthorised verandas and balconies in the Southcliff area of Walton on the Naze, along with associated arrangements for licencing, fees and charges. 

This follows from a significant number of objections and complaints from Southcliff beach hut owners about the fairness and practicality of the previous proposed approach which have been considered and taken on board in devising this revised approach. 

The report also advises that a review of the Council’s 2023 Beach Hut Strategy is due and should be undertaken, particularly given issues experienced in implementing all of the actions within it, not only those relating to the enforcement of the Beach Hut specification, but also in relation to the introduction of commercial and non-commercial leases to replace annual licences.
