Issue details

Essex County Council has appointed Sport for Confidence (SFC) to lead community partners in delivering therapeutic interventions through physical activities. These interventions aim to support adults with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, long-term health conditions, and their carers by promoting early help and preventative measures. The council's initiative seeks to address health inequalities by providing accessible, person-centred physical activity opportunities.
Since 2019, SFC has operated at Clacton Leisure Centre, offering sessions led by Occupational Therapists that include swimming and bespoke classes. Participants are encouraged to overcome barriers to exercise, whether due to mental health issues or physical limitations. For some, even entering a venue and paying for an activity is a significant step forward. Skilled Occupational Therapists support participants in becoming more active and leading fulfilling lives.
As part of the appointment, Tendring District Council (TDC) are required to enter into a Service Level Agreement (SLA) to continue its partnership.
