A specification and invitation to tender was
issued and following evaluation of such Colchester Archaeology
Trust have been appointed to carry out a bore hold study at the
Jaywick Sands Market site. This piece of work was tendered and the
appointed company meet all the requirements of the brief and were

The Specification of Requirements was prepared for the Council by
Essex County Council Place Services.
The Specification requires a single borehole to be positioned,
based on the information from existing borehole records, taken as
part of the site investigation works (attached for information),
and avoiding any buried structures identified during the site
investigations.
The borehole evaluation should aim to:
•Establish a permanent record of the stratigraphy of the
site;
•Collect undisturbed samples for off-site
assessment/analysis;
•Create a preliminary interpretation of the geo-archaeological
site formation processes across the site;
•Create a preliminary interpretation of the vegetational and
aquatic conditions;
•Establish the presence of any major topographic features or
buried land surfaces; and
•Establish the potential for survival of archaeological
remains.
