Purpose:

The Council was awarded £607,000 from the Community Housing Fund in January 2017. Officers have engaged the services of a specialist Consultant and would now like to set up a grant programme in order to award the funding to community groups.

Decision:

To provide small grants of up to £5,000 from the Community Housing Fund allocation to community organisations to assist in the setting up of Community Land Trusts.

 

Reasons for the decision:

The Council was awarded £706,000 in 2017 to support the delivery of community led housing. Working with specialist advisors the Council is now in a position to offer support to community groups.

Alternative options considered:

No alternative options have been considered. The funding is available and this is a logical way of encouraging community groups to set themselves up to deliver housing.
