Purpose:

As you will be aware, Clacton Leisure Centre provides a large range of activities within the Sports Hall, as part of these provisions a storage location is allocated behind fire shutters within the Sports Hall to ensure the safe storage of items such as gymnastics and trampolining equipment.
In a recent safety inspection, the shutter doors have been marked as unsafe for use due to age and level of repair required. This has meant that the shutter doors have been forced to be remained open and fixed at their top point, substantially increasing the chances of someone accessing this area and at risk of endangerment. Whilst everything has been done at Centre level to reduce this risk it is impossible to eliminate without the doors and should a fire break out the area is exposed.
Within the 21st October 2024 Cabinet meeting - Cabinet Members' Items - Report of the Corporate Finance

Decision:

To award, appointment and enter into a contract under a PO arrangement for £8,006.46 excluding VAT with The Pegasus Door Company in order to complete works to the Sports Hall Fire Shutter Doors at Clacton Leisure Centre.

The Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Public Realm concurs with this decision being made.

Alternative options considered:

Not to repair shutter doors have been forced to be remained open and fixed at their top point, substantially increasing the chances of someone accessing this area and at risk of endangerment.
