Decision Maker: Leader of the Council and Corporate Finance & Governance Portfolio Holder

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decision:

(a)    To formally remove Councillor Mike Bush as the appointee of the Council on the Waste Management Partnership Board and Essex Councils Climate Forum.

(b)    To formally appoint Councillor Adrian Smith, in his capacity of Portfolio Holder for Environment, to the Waste Management Partnership Board and Essex Councils Climate Forum.

Reasons for the decision:

Following the change in membership of the Council’s Cabinet, to realign the appointments to the two named Outside Bodies.  The Outside Bodies are:

Waste Management Partnership Board – This includes Essex County Council, our 12 district and borough councils and the unitary authority of Southend-on- sea Borough Council. The Essex Waste Partnership was set up to ensure cost-efficient and sustainable waste management is delivered across the county and Southend.

Essex Councils Climate Forum – This is a place where councillors with an environmental remit from across Essex can meet informally to share ideas, learning and best practice, to discuss and design joint projects, take stock and inspire, and forge the partnerships that will deliver the climate agenda in the coming years.

Alternative options considered:

Not to take up the appointment nomination right and, thereby, not support this Council’s objects on the two Outside Bodies or otherwise promote the interests of the District.
