Decision Maker: Assistant Director (Economic Growth & Leisure)
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
A report to Management Team was presented and
well received on 8th August 2023 which outlined that Royal Opera
House East had approached Tendring Cultural Education Partnership
(Tendring District Council) and offered a number of Craft Council
‘Let’s Craft’ creative packs for children and
young people who typically are unable to access these resources in
the home.
‘Let’s Craft’ is a national project led by the
Craft Council in partnership with Hobbycraft, it is a three-year
appeal to get 20,000 craft packs into the hands of children who
don’t usually have access to arts and craft supplies at home.
Royal Opera House East is the ‘Let’s Craft’
partner for the East of England.
It was agreed that with Portfolio Holder Concurrence, that the
Tendring Cultural Education Partnership could accept the 'Lets
Craft' Activity Boxes and disseminate to recipients across
Tendring.
Decision:
For the Tendring Cultural Education
Partnership (LCEP) to accept 500 ‘Let’s Craft’
activity boxes from Royal Opera House East and the Craft Council
and with Portfolio Holder agreement, to disseminate to children and
young people in Tendring in the following way:
-Year 5 Creative Careers Conference
-Care homes in Tendring
-Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service
-Community Voluntary Services Tendring
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - For the Tendring Cultural Education
Partnership to accept the 'Lets Craft' Activity Boxes and
distribute following discussion with the Portfolio Holder to agreed
groups supporting children and young people across Tendring.
Option 2 - To not accept the 'Lets Craft' Activity Boxes. This was
rejected as the Tendring Cultural Education Partnership aims to
raise the creative and cultural aspirations of all children and
young people in Tendring. These free resources will enable children
who would not normally have access to craft resources in the home
to create and produce objects during May half term.
Decision agreed with Portfolio Concurrence dated 21st May 2024, a
record of which has been kept on file.
