Since front reception reopened after Covid 19
this security resource has proved invaluable. The guard is able to
‘queue bust’ when it is particularly busy and their
presence acts as a calming influence when people start to get
agitated.
Particularly, as we often have young or junior customer service
agents on the front counter, it helps to have a male presence in
uniform protecting our staff.
Funding for this initiative has been agreed by the Assistant
Director, Finance and IT.
To continue to employ a security guard to man
front reception at Pier Avenue for the next 12 months during
opening times at £197.40 + VAT per week.
Option 1 - Consideration has been given to
having no security presence however, since Covid 19 and with the
current cost of living crisis, there are more frequent instances
where customers become aggressive and abusive towards our customer
service agents. Without a security guard there is a risk of
escalation and physical abuse.
